KANSAS CITY MetroRegion BREAKING NEWS: ROADWAYS ICY- WRECKS MANY

At this posting- radio scanners are locked up with numerous wrecks- both injury and non - throughout the entire KC Metro generally south of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers.

Wrecks have severely limited or closed travel on I-70 around Blue Springs- I-435 on KC-MO-Leawood-KS state Line- and U.S. 50 in southeastern Jackson County MO..


An earlier wreck- around 6:30am- on northbound U.S. 69 just south of 359th Street in Miami County critically injured a female with a male in his 20's lesser injured.

A police officer was injured just after 7:30am on eastbound I-435 near State Line in Leawood. That 36-year-old officer's injuries were not life-threatening.

Numerous injured being brought to their emergency rooms have closed Overland Park-Regional Medical Center- Johnson County's only trauma center.

Freezing drizzle with periods of light freezing rain will continue over the Metro for at least the next 2 hours.
