Central States News: Omaha Fights To Keep Their Airport Dry

Like Kansas City- Omaha has an airport surrounded on 3 sides by the Missouri River.

Unlike Kansas City- Omaha's Eppley Field is that Nebraska city's commercial airline airport.

The OMAHA WORLD describes the effort by Omaha officials to keep the rising Missouri River from flooding Eppley.

Storm sewer backups from the rising Missouri have also flooded parking lots at Omaha's new baseball stadium- but the situation is not expectd to greatly affect the College World Series being played there.

Kansas City learned their lesson from the devastating 1951 flood and eventually built a new  commercial airport- Kansas City International- which is far larger and safer than the old downtown airport (which is still in use for general aviation) and protected from ANY river floods ...unless Noah returns.
