That's the unverifiable word from at least one KC-MO Fire Department captain delivered to one of my sources.
This unnamed fire captain says the fire department WILL have the MAST-EMS service inside it's organization on May 1.
If this is the case- what's the fire department going to do with MAST's non cross-trained people- those not trained in firefighting?
What is the fire department going to do with MAST's older employees and MAST's dispatch center as well as it's headquarters on Eastwood Trafficway west of I-435?
One city firefighter says the EMS transition to the fire department is a sure thing.
I say with all the questions that remain- is it?

Nope. The numbers aren't there. The city can't pay it's current people, let alone take in new employees at their present wages and promise benefits and pension.
This is a handy political ploy, but don't be fooled. Consider your sources. I wouldn't take anything someone from MAST or someone from KCFD says as fact. They're all lying.
It's not like KCMO is known for it's intelligence with respect to finances.
Agreed.
I question the veracity of the comment in the post while reporting the statement itself.
Actually- with all the silly shit going on down at City Hall lately- I wouldn't be surprised if the comment was true...

I asked around. May 1 is when the budget is due. That's also when IAFF 42 is supposed to have a new MOU. If anything, the view is that this consolidation talk is a bargaining ploy by the IAFF to strong arm the MAST management and throw their weight around.
However, it appears to be back firing. Local 42 is in some hot water for sending a letter threatening "labor unrest" if Independence chooses MAST to serve its city. The union fires back with a letter talking about how much money supervisors are making.
And back and forth and back and forth.
The people who work at MAST say this has been a huge hit to morale. They're now really divided.
Personally, seeing it from the outside, it doesn't surprise me. I have worked union jobs, but in the end it always made it more divisive and hateful to work at union shops.
