The NWS statement reads:
"SOUTH WINDS CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN THIS MORNING AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT DRAPED ACROSS EAST CENTRAL NEBRASKA THROUGH NORTHWEST KANSAS. EARLY MORNING SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS ARE ALREADY RANGING BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH...ACROSS EAST CENTRAL KANSAS AND WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI.
AS THE FRONT MOVES SOUTHEAST THE SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS WILL STRENGTHEN TO RANGE AROUND 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TOPPING 40 MPH. THESE STRONG WINDS WILL BEGIN TO EASE DURING THE EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS AS THE COLD FRONT STARTS MOVING THROUGH EASTERN KANSAS AND MISSOURI.
AREAS AFFECTED BY THESE STRONG WINDS WILL BE SOUTH OF A LINE FROM ATCHISON KANSAS- THROUGH CONCORDIA MISSOURI- WARRENSBURG AND CLINTON.
THIS INCLUDES THE KANSAS CITY METRO AREA.
A WIND ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE 30 TO 40 MPH...OR GUSTS RANGING FROM 45 TO 57 MPH ARE EXPECTED.
WINDS OF THIS STRENGTH MAY CAUSE MINOR PROPERTY DAMAGE WITHOUT EXTRA PRECAUTIONS. MOTORISTS IN HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION UNTIL THE WINDS SUBSIDE. "
