The alarm came in a few minutes before 4 a.m. Sunday morning for a fire in an apartment building at The Falls Apartments at 6565 Foxridge Drive in western Mission KS..
The first-arriving fire company arrived at the complex at 4:02 a.m.- reporting "heavy fire showing from 3 stories of exterior balconies."
There are also a number of the building's occupants that are trapped- and the first fire companies are involved in rescues during the precious first few minutes at the scene.
A 2nd-alarm response is ordered- nearly 10 fire companies committed to the fire.
A "a 60-year-old female with smoke inhalation" was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center in serious condition by MEDACT-EMS.
At 4:43 a.m.- "2 victims" were reported found in a 3rd-floor apartment being searched by firefighters- but it was unclear if they were rescues or recoveries.
It was later confirmed that the 2 victims found- an adult male and female- were fatalities.
Just after 5 a.m.- a "34-year-old male firefighter" was being transported to Shawnee-Mission Medical Center due to heat exhaustion.
Several other firefighters were treated for symptoms of overheating on the fire scene with temperatures in the middle-80's.
At 6:21 a.m.- the fire was declared "out" by fire command.
