KANSAS CITY'S BREAKING NEWS: M.U.: 36 - K.U.: 28

With the 2nd largest crowd- 80537- in the 35 year history of Arrowhead Stadium at the Truman Sports Complex- the University of Missouri football Tigers have defeated the University of Kansas Jayhawks by a score of 36 to 28.

There have been quite a number of sideshows as well- monitored on the Arrowhead security radio channel. There have been around a dozen assaults heard- both inside and outside Arrowhead.

Just as the game ended- one man had been arrested after hijacking a security cart in a parking lot- driving it around Kaufman Stadium among other places before stopped. Several other medical calls involved possible intoxicated people.

No serious wrecks are being reported as of this posting- hopefully all goes well as this Jayhawker congratulates the Missouri Tigers.

KANSAS CITY'S BREAKING NEWS/WEATHER: SNOW CAUSING NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS IN THE KANSAS CITY METRO

A light to moderate snow is causing bridges and roadways to become slick and hazardous from the K.C.I. and Liberty areas southward through KC-KS- KC-MO into Johnson County- westward and southwestward into Lawrence and Ottawa Kansas.

Temperatures are hovering around the freezing mark- and dozens of accidents with several involving serious injuries have been reported in KC-MO Northland and in JoCo-KS.

A KC-MO fire chief reports "possibly closing I-435" near K.C.I. Airport because of wrecks. Cars are reported to have gone of the road in numerous locations along the I-435 corridor from KCI- KC-KS into JoCo. I-35 is affected from near I-635 south past I-435 near Olathe.

Radar trends indicate the snow bands will slack off by noon- with temperatures rising above freezing most areas by mid-afternoon. Maximum snowfalls of 3/4-inch or less expected.

** INJURIES IN RIVERSIDE-MO APARTMENT BUILDING FIRE**

*** A 56-year-old woman got burned and inhaled smoke in an apartment building fire in Riverside around 2:15am Saturday morning. Her injuries were serious but not immediately life-threatening.

Another male suffered a bruised head but refused transport to a hospital from the scene of the 2-alarm fire in the 4400 block of De Mons Drive.

The first arriving of the 2 Riverside fire companies reported the 2-story building "heavily-involved" in flames and "possibly people trapped inside" at 2:25am.. Flames also caught at least part of a 2nd building.

Six other fire companies from Southern Platte and KC-MO Fire departments helped RIverside bring the fire under control by about 4:30am..

The cause of the fire was under investigation..

Cloudy skies were producing only snow flurries in the southwest Metro and some light snow over Kansas parts of the MetroRegion Saturday morning. Temperatures ranged from the middle-20's to the lower-30's.

Still a good chance of light snow or flurries this morning over about the southwestern quarter of the Kansas City MetroRegion- accumulations around or under 1/2-inch- with temperatures in the mid to upper-30's today.

KANSAS CITY'S BREAKING NEWS: VEHICLE WITH DRIVER HAS GONE INTO LONGVIEW LAKE

At 2:26pm- KC-MO police have reported "a car has gone into (Longview) lake at high speed" at the Longview Marina near Longview and Raytown Road in southeastern KC.

A woman driver was reported in that vehicle- unknown any other occupants or if the police were involved in this incident- such as some sort of pursuit. The car and the driver is in "at least 50-60 feet of water" says a fire chief.

Lee's Summit underwater Rescue divers are being dispatched to the scene to assist at least 6 KC-MO Fire companies.

A BRILLIANT! day weather-wise today- sunny and pleasantly crisp. Give thanks for that.

The 900th annual Plaza Christmas lighting ceremony- the Longview Lake fireworks and Christmas In The Park show this evening. Two Top 5 college football teams Saturday and a pro team who'd be lucky to beat either of those college teams Sunday. Give thanks for them.

People NOT drinking because they're driving today. Give thanks- praise & respect for that.

It's Beginning To Feel A Lot Like...

Winter.

There's still a chance of some light snow this evening- as present temperatures edge ever closer to the freezing mark (it's 32.5-degrees F here in south K.C.).

This will create some slick spots on wet bridges & overpasses- and a total accumulation of less than 1-inch most Metro areas.

I sure feel in the holiday spirit today (especially after 3 egg nogs and rum lol).

Kansas Jayhawks Football Ranked No. 2 In Country

Unbelievable- now the Kansas Jayhawks' football team has been ranked Number 2 in the nation- according to this AP article.

The Jayhawks- after beating Iowa State 44-7 on Saturday- are 11-0 for the first time in school history. The Missouri Tigers are ranked right behind them at No. 3.

The Game of the Century will be held next Saturday evening- between the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks and No. 3 Missouri Tigers- at Arrowhead Stadium here in Kansas City.

*** ONE DEAD IN KC-MO WRECK ***

*** A two car crash on the south end of the Broadway Bridge just after midnight resulted in at least one dead - a young female- and at least 1 critically-injured of 3 other patients.

The crash was reported at 12:08am- extrication of the injured in the 2 vehicles was needed and 5 MAST ambulances to treat/transport them. There were reports the dead child was not in a child-restraint seat.

Southbound Broadway Extension was closed for more than 3 hours.

** MAN CRITICALLY-INJURED AFTER BAR FIGHT IN KC-MO **

*** An approximately 30-year-old man was in very critical condition as enroute to an area medical trauma center after a reported assault in a back parking lot of a south Kansas City nightclub early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred in the back parking lot of the One Block East club at 11801 Blue Ridge at 12:39am.. Paramedics said their patient "was knocked down and his head struck the pavement" during an altercation.

There was no suspect information or word if any arrests were made.

** SERIOUS INJURIES IN DOUGLAS COUNTY KS WRECK **

... Two were reported injured- one seriously- in a 1-vehicle rollover crash down an embankment near Lawrence at 4:55am Sunday morning.

The crash was in the 800 block of East 1000 Road- and a seriously-injured male was flown by medical helicopter to a K.C. hospital. The 2nd occupant reportedly had minor injuries.

Temperatures remained 10 to 15 degrees above average overnight under mostly clear skies and light easterly winds.

A strong warm-up over the next few days- until a strong cold front passes through the area late Tuesday or Wednesday.

That front will threaten the MetroRegion with a range of weather from possible thunderstorms to ice and/or snow into early Thanksgiving Day. The coldest air of the season is expected.

Okay- Winter Storm Around Thanksgiving In Central States

Here we go- the weather model of choice has done a complete circle of sorts- back to the scenario of a rain to snow event over the Central U.S.- including the Kansas City MetroRegion.

The GFS model returns to a storm system over the Central U.S. Wednesday and now into early Thanksgiving Day.

** MAN INJURED IN LAWRENCE-KS HOUSE FIRE **

*** Douglas County-KS EMS is reporting a "54-year-old male" suffered "2nd-degree burns on his hands" during a house fire in Lawrence early Saturday morning.

That man and at least 2 other persons were taken to the Lawrence hospital after that 2:47am fire in the single-story home in the 2600 block of Pickwick Place.

No one was seriously hurt and the cause of the fire was under investigation..

* FOUR INJURED IN LEE'S SUMMIT-MO WRECK *

***Police reported 4 were injured- 1 seriously- after a 2-car wreck on Chipman Road and Independence Avenue around 1:30am.

The seriously-injured patient was "a 22-year-old female- in a car that was broadsided by another vehicle going about 35-40 m.p.h.." Most of the other patients were also in their 20's- including the driver of the vehicle that struck the 2nd one.

Charges were pending.

* BLUE SPRINGS-MO RESIDENCE FIRE *

... Central Jackson County Fire Protection District firefighters from 3 stations rolled out on a reported residence fire in the 1500 block of Northwest Wildwood Drive at 6:20am Saturday morning.

No one was injured in the fire that reportedly was in the residence's garage and under control within 20 minutes after the alarm sounded.

Mostly clear skies cand light to calm winds was the overnight weather in the Kansas City MetroRegion. Temperatures ranged from the middle-20's in calm valley locations to the upper-30's in urbanized spots.

KSHB NBC41 News Coverage To Expand By 7 Hours Weekly

KSHB will expand their news programming by 7 hours a week beginning January 15- 2008.

According to the KSHB news release- a 5-days a week midday hour of news and information will show from 11am to noon.

An hourlong morning weekend newscast will show from 8 to 9am Saturdays and Sundays.

The AM Live local show will be discontinued.

My role in the new weekend morning newscasts are as yet unclear. It's great being in the communications biz....
