Overnight News for Saturday, December 23, 2006 ...

MORE THAN HALF-DOZEN PERSONS SHOT AT A KANSAS CITY, MO. NIGHTCLUB.

****Police report "10" people injured - "9" of them shot - at the "6902 Club" in the 6900 block of Prospect around 11:30 pm Friday night.

Three of those shot are reported to be in critical condition.
At least one of those shot was driven to a nearby hospital before police arrived. One male patient "had his fingers blown off" by gunfire. Another man was "shot in the thigh" - another "in the buttocks." Police also say another patrons' injuries are "not life-threatening - a (male) trampled in the panic" as the shots were fired.

Police were seeking the shooter in "a white Cadillac - last seen southbound on Prospect." The suspect said to be "a black male - 5'7" to 5'10" (tall)- 190 pounds (with) gold upper front teeth."

Victims went to 5 area trauma centers - closing some of those trauma centers for several hours. Four fire companies - 9 MAST ambulances and at least a dozen police cars responded to the scene.

***A mid to late-teen male was in serious to critical condition after being beaten & stabbed in KC's Northeast area.
It happened in the area of Independence Avenue and Benton around 1:30 am. Police didn't report any suspect information. The "16-17-year-old" was taken to a nearby suburban trauma center.


**Another man reportedly walked from where he was stabbed to find police.
An officer at Armour & Troost reports the victim says his injuries were sustained at a house around 33rd & Paseo. The "47-year-old" patient was taken emergency by MAST to a trauma center.

***Two "young females" suffered critical injuries in a one-car rollover accident in Miami County KS. near Paola around 2:15 am. Paola FD extrication equipment was necessary for both occupants.
Scene EMS command tried to get 2 medical helicopters to the wreck- but only one would fly. At least one patient remained unconscious throughout the EMS transport.

0745 am - House fire on KC, MO's East side - 1800 block of Newton. Flames are reported knocked down 10 minutes later. Firefighters don't find any bodies inside.

Noisy overnight - but little in the way of major news....

The action was in Kansas City, Missouri-

**Around 1:45 AM Sunday morning- a man in his early-30's was stabbed in the back. This happened in the 5400 block of Northwest Waukomis Drive and police were looking for 2 white suspects - male and female. The victim was taken to an area trauma center in critical condition.


**Just after 2 AM- a man crashed his vehicle into a tree in the 2700 block of Cleveland. After a short extrication by the Fire Department- the driver was whisked to an area trauma center in serious to critical condition.

POLICE ARE ON THE SCENE OF WHAT WAS DISPATCHED AS "A MULTIPLE (VICTIM) SHOOTING" IN THE 5500 BLOCK OF PALOMA IN EASTERN KANSAS CITY, MO..

THE CALL CAME IN AT 8:49AM AND POLICE HAD TO BREAK DOWN A DOOR TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE STRUCTURE.

AT LEAST ONE DEAD PERSON AND POSSIBLY MORE ARE FOUND INSIDE AND HOMICIDE DETECTIVES WERE ORDERED.

"ONE SMALL CHILD" WAS DETECTED "STILL BREATHING" BY POLICE AROUND 9:10 AM. MAST SOON TRANSPORTED THIS VICTIM - "A 5-6-YEAR-OLD MALE WITH A GUNSHOT TO THE ROOF OF HIS MOUTH" - TO A TRAUMA CENTER IN CRITICAL CONDITION.

THE INVESTIGATION IS IN PROGRESS.

Police: Man Kills 5, Self in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -A man killed five people, including three of his children, before fatally shooting himself Saturday morning, and a fourth child was in the hospital with life-threatening wounds, police said.

The man killed one woman Friday night, then shot his longtime girlfriend, their four children and himself Saturday morning, Capt. Rich Lockhart said.

Police did not immediately identify the shooter or the women. Relatives identified the shooter's girlfriend as Shanika King, who was in her 30s.

The slain children were a 1-year-old boy, 11-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl, police said. An 8-year-old boy was in critical condition.

Overnight News - Saturday, 16 December 2006

Three car wrecks over 40 minutes kill 2 and critically-injure at least 2 others.

The fatal crashes were in Jackson County Missouri and Johnson County Kansas.

***In Oak Grove, MO-34-year-old Fredy W. Walls of Blue Springs died at an area medical center after crashing a 2001 ACURA just after 2am on westbound I-70.
The MO Highway Patrol reports Walls struck the rear of another car at high speed- lost control and overturned several times.
Walls and his passenger Dawn M. Bueneman - 37 - of Wildwood, MO were ejected during the crash. She was flown by LifeNet medical helicopter to an area trauma center in serious condition. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

***Around 2:30am-a single-car wreck on I-35 near Gardner, KS killed the male driver. The mid-sized car was southbound- left the road - and struck a wall. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by MedAct paramedics.

**A male driver is in critical condition at an area hospital after his vehicle struck a concrete median divider on I-435 at State Line around 1:50 am.


**Two men will live after a shooting at a south Kansas City, MO tavern.
It happened just after 2am- during a disturbance inside an establishment in the 8200 block of Hickman Mills Drive.
One victim was driven to a nearby hospital before police arrived. The other man- shot in the leg- was transported by MAST. An investigation is underway.


**A night manager of a Northland fast food establishment was robbed and carjacked in Gladstone around 5:45am. It happened at 72nd St. and North Oak. Police were seeking an armed male suspect and the manager's gray Chevy Corsica.


*Around 1:15am- someone set fire to a vacant house near the KC-Independence, MO border. The structure near Blue Ridge and Thompson was heavily-damaged and no one was hurt.

All the significant news was in Kansas City, MO overnight...

Around midnight- some one tried to set fire to an occupied house in the 2400 block of Brooklyn. The fire - reportedly in a bedroom- was quickly brought under control with no injuries.


During the 2-o'clock hour- a gunshot victim was driven to a local hospital's emergency room. Police report the victim says they were shot at a nightclub at Blue Parkway and 63rd Street but there was no suspect description given.


Three males reportedly carjacked a person at a south KC convenience store around 11:15pm Friday night. It happened near 87th Street and Hillcrest and the victim was not hurt. Police were looking for the suspects and the stolen 1997 Honda.


Around 3 am Saturday morning- a male driver crashed his vehicle through concrete median dividers on I-35 north of Cambridge Circle. The force of the crash ejected the driver and pushed the dividers into the northbound lanes forcing the Interstate to be closed for a time. The man was taken to a nearby trauma center with life-threatening injuries.


A "major water break" in a south KC hotel caused significant damage. The incident was reported around 6:30 am in the 500 block of East 105th Street. An unknown number of hotel guests were evacuated by firefighters to unaffected portions of the building but no one was hurt.



Overnight weather had clear skies with temperatures that stayed right around the 30-degree mark. Blustery southwesterly winds made it seem about a dozen degrees colder however.

Overnight News - Sunday, 03 December 2006

Kansas City, MO firefighters were busy at their job Sunday morning.

A house is consumed in flames in Kansas City's Northland.
The alarm went out around 10am to the 5200 block of N.E. 63rd Terrace. The fire in the 1-1/2-story home was reported under control at 10:52am. Two adults and a child have been displaced - but no reports of injuries.

Earlier- three firefighters escaped serious injury after falling through the floor at a 2-alarm fire in the 1700 block of Corrington.
The 4:50am incident involved eight KCFD companies and burned 2 houses. One was occupied by 2 adults and 2 children who escaped injury. The other was vacant.
A 32-year-old male firefighter fell through a hole in the floor and into the basement of the vacant house - his air mask ripped from his face in the process.
He was quickly rescued by his comrades and whisked to an area hospital in good condition. Two other firefighters who also fell through holes in the floor didn't require medical treatment.
The fire was under control at 5:33am and at least 6 streams of water were reportedly used. The cause was being investigated as arson.

At 12:32am, another fire occurred in a house that had a fire on Saturday. This incident was in the 1300 block of East 84th Street. Flames that were "through the roof" when the first company arrived were under control at 12:51am. No injuries here and this fire had suspicious origins and was being investigated.


Lawrence, KS emergency services dealt with a car containing 4 occupants slamming into a tree. The call went out at 1:15am to the intersection of Quail Creek & Tam-o-shanter. One of the injured - a 19-year-old male front passenger - was flown by LifeStar medical helicopter to a KC-area hospital in serious condition.

Another man in his 20's is in serious to critical condition after slamming his pickup truck into a concrete median divider. This wreck was reported around 4am on eastbound I-670 east of the Kansas state line.


Police are looking for suspects in two alleged home-invasions in the Kansas City, MO Southland - one of the invasions was unsuccessful.
The home invasion that was carried off was in the 9400 block of Stark just before 1am. Police report 3 black males broke down a back door and entered the residence. No one was injured and no word on what was taken.

The failed invasion was in the 6600 block of Winchester. There 2 black male suspects tried to force open a door and not succeeding they left in a possibly light-pink colored Neon.



Overnight weather experienced dry conditions as clouds moved out. Temperatures fell from the low 20's into the mid-teens- but lessening winds didn't make it feel much colder.

Overnight News - Saturday, 02 December 2006

At 6:19am- Independence, MO ambulance service AMR-EMS went on a call for unknown medical reasons of "a man down" at 19th street and Cedar. About 10 minutes later- AMR reported that person was dead-on-arrival.
The reason for the man's death was being investigated.


Leavenworth, KS police and the Kansas Highway Patrol are investigating an incident that was dispatched at 2:21am as a "pedestrian hit." The incident reportedly occurred at "Broadway and Pottawatomie" in Leavenworth.
Very serious injuries were indicated by LPD officers on that scene.


House fires in both Kansas Cities caused significant damage - but no injuries.

First was a fire in a vacant house at 4:38am in the 5900 block of East 14th Street in KC MO. Two handlines were used to bring the blaze under control at 4:48am.
The origin of the fire was suspicious - and under investigation.

The second incident was in a lived-in house in the 1700 block of North 43rd Street in KC KS at 5:06am. An unknown-number of occupants escaped the home before the first fire company arrived three minutes later. At 5:30am- the on-scene district chief pulled all crews from the structure for fear of a floor collapse into the basement. It was 5:41am before this fire was knocked down.
Origin of this fire was in the basement - unoffically from a defective or improperly-used kerosene heater.


Overnight weather was mostly cloudy with a temperature that fell only 2 degrees from midnight's 23-degree reading. Light southwesterly winds still took the wind chill into the lower-teens over the 8-inch snowpack here in KC MO's Loma Vista area.

Just moments ago- the NWS in Pleasant Hill sent a "HEAVY SNOW WARNING" over their NOAA weatherradio.

Six (north) to 12 inches (south) are expected to fall in Metro Kansas City before this event ends early Friday morning.

The development of a significant - double-barrel" winter-type storm continues to unfold.

Round one will be a possible significant ice storm - with quarter to half-inch ice accumulations - from the KC Metro northeastward into northern Missouri today into early Thursday (see official NWS warning and safety tips below).

After the ice comes a snow event. From 1-3 inches could fall in the far north & northwest north Metro with 4-6 inches in the far southern & southeastern Metro areas.
