CSW BREAKING: Mobile Home Fire in Raymore MO

At 11:58 a.m.- the entire South Metro Fire department in Raymore was called-out to a reported mobile home fire in the 1200 block of North Mullen.

Fire crews enroute could see smoke looming up from the fire from a distance- and when the first crew arrived at 12:02 p.m. they reported smoke and fire had engulfed the trailer- but the "occupants (were) outside."

Mutual-aid assistance has been sent from at least 2 other Cass county fire departments due to a lack of fire hydrants near the fire.


As of 12:55 p.m.- the fire has been mostly extinguished- but an injury- "a smoke inhalation patient-" has been reported at the scene.

The initial patient report from the scene indicates that person's condition is not life-threatening- but no indication if this was one of the mobile home's occupants or a firefighter.

TV Commercials Apparently Pay Off For K.U. Medical Center

You've probably seen the commercials- a Hollywood actor walking around with alleged K.U. Med Center employees telling the viewers how great a hospital it is.


So it goes that The TOPEKA (KS) CAPITAL-JOURNAL reports that K.U. Med Center's revenues increased according to a report issued by the hospital when it's "fiscal year" ended on June 30 of last year: "Revenues during the last fiscal year were $805 million...."


Buried at the bottom of the story was the cost of uninsured/indigent health care at KU/MC: "The value of such care was nearly $37 million in the last fiscal year, up $3.4 million, or 10 percent from the previous fiscal year."


I'm STILL wondering why a public hospital needs to advertise on TV.....

Continued Rises in Fuel Prices Will Kill America's Economic "Recovery"

Although a surprising number of people don't see a great deal of "recovery" from America's "Recession (Depression)-" more people will likely see even less positive signs.


Gasoline approaches the $3 per gallon mark again- and our worthless D.C. pollys haven't done a thing about oil price speculators.

Those are the Wall Street "(un)patriots" who contributed greatly to America's $4+ per gallon gas prices back in 2008.


As fuel prices increase- so does the cost of virtually everything else- and that's going to bring any "economic recovery" to a screeching halt and bring on that mega-inflation that's lurking around the corner.

Central States News: Iowa's Flood Risk is Rising

The Central States have experienced more flooding over the past 20 years and- according to this story in The DES MOINES (IA) REGISTER- climate change due to questionably-controversial global warming is partially to blame.

More worrisome is a forecast by some "experts" that stream flows by 2040 could "increase by 50%."

Recall 1993 here in Kansas City- when Army Corps of Engineers flood control reservoirs in Kansas overflowed and contributed to a record-setting flood crest here.


That's also a concern in Iowa- where the DMR story says their flood-control systems were built using "inadequate (forecast) models."

CSW Weird News: Suicidal New Yorker "Saved" By Garbage

A suicidal man in New York City who took a 9-story plunge Sunday fell into a pile of garbage and survived- CNN reports.

New York has had a lack of garbage pickup since last week's snowstorm virtually paralyzed the city.


The suicidal man was reportedly in "critical but stable condition."

CSW COMMENTARY: Kansas City's Disgrace- Too Many Homicides

While reading regional online newspapers this morning- it struck me just how disproportionate KC-MO's 106 homicides for 2010 really is.


For example- Central States' Oklahoma City- which has a larger population than K.C. (although KC's Metro area population is more than twice as large)- registered 60 homicides in 2010.

The City of Omaha NE which has about 75000 less residents than we do- totalled 35 killings last year.

Only St. Louis MO- which is actually smaller in population- exceeded KC-MO's homicide count with an "unofficial" 2010 total of 142.


Kansas City's killing rate is deplorable- and it seems both our political leaders and the local news media give only begrudging coverage to that fact- and that too is a disgrace.

CSW BREAKING: Building Fire in KC-MO's East Bottoms

A "1st-alarm" dispatch of 8 KC-MO Fire companies sent crews to a reported building fire at Nicholson & Montgall at 7:04 p.m..

Station 10's crews were first on-scene at 7:08 p.m. and reported "smoke and fire showing from a 1-story" building- exact address was unknown- but the fire is in the 700 block of North Montgall.


As of 7:15 p.m.- "3" handlines were being used in an outside-the-structure firefight..

CSW SPORTS: Chiefs Give Sneak Preview of Playoff Game

Hey Chiefs fan- can you say one and out?


That's going to be the forecast for next week's game after today's terrible performance at 1 Arrowhead Way.

The Chiefs looked to be in early-season (losing) form as the Oakland Raiders stomped all over the Arrowheaders 31 to 10.

Some fans blame a departing coach- but I didn't see Charlie Weis play one down of NFL football all season- that why "fans" is short for the word "fanatic."


We USED to say "Come on Royals" after crappy Chiefs seasons- but I haven't heard that expression used around this burg since the Royal's REAL owner Ewing Kauffman died in the 1990's.

CSW BREAKING: Fatality Car Crash in the KC-MO Northland

One person is dead and at least 2 teenage males are in serious to critical condition after a single vehicle crash around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning.


The crash was in the 7500 to 7800 block of North Mace.

Police told the local news media that one person died at the scene- but KC-MO FD- EMS transported 2 patients from the wreck to North Kansas City Hospital: a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old in serious and very critical condition respectively.


The males were reportedly ejected during the crash after the vehicle struck several trees and rolled over into a field.


Later in the week- KC-MO Police identified the fatality as "18-year-old Alexander Huber from Kansas City MO.- with the "19-year-old driver still in the hospital with critical injuries."

Around 1900 Employees Want Look At Corporate Books

The 1900 are employees of what is known as the National Football League- and they're threatening a job action in ... March???


Though a number of that 1900 make more money in one year than you or I make in 20 years- or a lifetime- the player's union want a look at the ledgers of the 32 teams that make up the NFL..


Also does the following sound early 21st Century corporate- the team owners (apparently not satisfied with ticket price increases and local taxpayer subsidies) want to slash their employees' pay by "18%-" according to the story in the KANSAS CITY BUSINESS JOURNAL.
