Kansas City MetroRegion Weather: Winter Storm Watch North - Northwest For Tuesday

The NWS offices in Topeka-KS & Pleasant Hill-MO have issued Winter Storm Watches for a large part of northeastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri (see image- areas in red). This watch is in effect for Tuesday- and includes the possiblility of heavy snow in the watch area.

The K.C. Metro is NOT included in this watch at this time.

Why Doesn't The Kansas City News Media Call Richard Tolbert What He Really Is

Tolbert wants "a black (shopping) mall."

Imagine for a moment if you will- a white activist/would-be polly saying K.C. needs a "white mall."

What would the minority community call that white person? And why THE HELL is the news media treating Richard Tolbert's rants about "a black mall" with kid gloves instead of reporters asking him this bottom line question:

Isn't your pleas for "a black mall" racist Mr. Tolbert?

I sit waiting for this question from K.C.'s news media.

Kansas City WEATHER: Oops

Like the high-paid weatherpeople in this burg- I could give you a boring recital of what this storm system did to NOT bring us the snow amounts forecasted just 12 hours ago.

I won't- like these other high-paid and degreed meteorologists- I just blew the forecast.

We're still getting some snow- but any accumulations will be mainly south of the river in the K.C. Metro itself. And accumulations in northern Miami CO- southern Johnson CO-KS through southern Jackson and northern Cass COs-MO will be an inch or less.

Temperatures right now are hovering around the freezing mark (33-degrees here just northeast of the decrepit Bannister Mall). This will help salt application on roadways and keep most road surfaces from freezing for the next few hours.

Kansas City MetroRegion Weather: Snowstorm Late And Less

The possibly largest single snowfall for the K.C. Metro is late in developing- and doesn't look as impressive this morning but still a PITA.

The upper system is still digging south along the Texas-New Mexico border while a surface low sits near Wichita Falls-TX this hour. All indications are that the storm will pull east then northeast much farther south than the models showed just 12 hours ago.

Snow has finally began falling in the southern and southwestern portions of the MetroRegion as depicted by this latest NWS-Pleasant Hill Doppler radar image.

Snowfall could begin in Metro K.C. during morning drive-time.

New snow forecast totals by this evening: 1/2 to 2-inches from an about Leavenworth to Liberty-MO line- 1-1/2 to 3 inches from about a Lawrence-KS to Lexington-MO line (including much of KC & northern JOCO-KS and mid-KC-MO)- 2-4 inches along and south of a Baldwin City-KS to Lone Jack-MO line.

Heavier snow is expected generally along and southeast of a Garnett-KS- Harrisonville- Warrensburg-MO line at this time. More than 4-inches expected there.

KANSAS CITY'S WEATHER: Snowstorm On Tap For Thursday

What could be the K.C. Metro's heaviest snowfall this 2007-08 winter season waits in the wings tomorrow.

Forecasted snow totals of 4 to 6 inches are expected in the Metro itself- with isolated snowfalls of up to 8 inches possible in some areas.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has the MetroRegion under both Winter Storm Watches (south) and Snow Advisories (north) Thursday.

This storm will produce the heaviest snows from the Metro southward- unlike the other storms which have mainly gone north of the city.

The K.C. Metro is- at this time- on the northern edge of that forecasted heavier snow band expected to set up from about Emporia-KS to Macon-MO..

The good news- if any- is that this storm promises to be all snow in our area- with any chances of any ice accumulations well east and south of the MetroRegion.

KANSAS CITY'S WEATHER: Heaviest Snow In Progress

Accident reports on the radio scanners have increased 5-fold the past 2 hours- as snow has begun to accumulate on Metro streets and freeways.

Note this latest image from 87th Street and U.S. 69 in Overland Park with the image in a previous weather post around 11am.

The snow should be out of here by evening drive-time- with anywhere from one-half to isolated 2-inch snowfall totals expected.

Margaret Truman-Daniel Dies At Age 83

The only child of former President Harry S. Truman and his wife Bess- Margaret Truman- has "died at a Chicago assisted living facility following a brief illness"- according to a statement from the Truman Library in Independence- says this AP story.

Here is an image from the early 1950's- showing Ms. Truman with comedians Jimmy Durante and Eddie Jackson. Her father Harry once threatened a critic who gave Margaret a bad review after a singing recital.

Ms. Truman married Clifton Daniel in April of 1956. Mr. Daniel died in 2000.

KANSAS CITY'S WEATHER: Snow Increasing

Snowfall has increased over the KC Metro during the past few hours- and as you can see by the radar image- more areas of heavier snow is moving into the Metro from the west.

Streets are already showing signs of accumulation- as depicted by this Overland Park traffic camera image from 87th Street & U.S. 69.

Around an inch can be expected by evening drive-time. Roads will become icy in areas untreated by road crews.

This is a prelude to a larger snowstorm now appearing on Thursday. More on that later....

Student Drug Testing (How About Politicians)

Missouri Senator Matt Bartle likes to say to the states' youth: Do As I Say- NOT As I Do!"

Mr. self-appointed "Conscience of the American Right Wing" Bartle wants to pass a law requiring student athletes in the state to take mandatory drug tests before participating in school sports.

This is hilarious- politicians are NOT required to take drug tests. These are the people making the laws and making decisions that affect each and every one of us.

Yet NO politician- from city councilperson to American President- is required to take a drug test before taking their oath of office.

What is wrong with this picture? Where is the American news media here- to point out the utter hypocrisy of drug testing?

The American people are being fooled and failed on many fronts. The lack of drug testing for POLITICIANS may be one of the biggest jokes yet.

Let Feds Pay For Radio Frequency Switch

An expenditure for tens of millions of dollars seems to be flying just under the local news media's radar- this spending is for a "new" public safety radio system.



This replaces the "new" yet reportedly "antiquated" 800mhz trunking radio system that the taxpayers spent an estimated $40-million just last decade.

More than $30-million will be needed for the replacement.

The reason for this?

The federal government has "sold" portions of the 800mhz PUBLIC radio spectrum to private corporations and all the governmental agencies that piled onto this spectrum in the 1990's have to move to the 700mhz band.


Yet I don't see ANY Federal money helping those agencies nationwide make the switch. The costs I've heard bandied around for a new KC-MO radio system is around $10-million.


If this is a Federal mandate- why aren't Federal dollars being used for this conversion- rather than cities- already strapped for funds in other areas?


Why isn't the electronic news media keeping a better eye on the FCC? Why isn't ANY news media keeping a closer eye on the federal government?

Maybe that's the reason we're in the mess we're in....
